Hal’s entire life is centered around tennis. She is the best in her state and her parents want her to one of the exclusive tennis schools which they are not sure they can afford. Her best friend Janie as gone away to a tennis school and has had an emotional breakdown. Meanwhile, Hal is also dealing with her non-tennis friends and the first boy who has taken interest in her. This 262 page book shows what it is like for a young lady to devote her life to a sport and the pressure from parents, a coach, and herself. What does this all mean to Hal’s emotional stability and her other non-sport friendships. This is an important book, especially for student who have been watching the Olympics this summer.
